Why Kautokeino?
- High latitude – located well above the Arctic Circle means that there is a high probability of seeing the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) on a nightly basis – even if levels of solar activity were relatively low.
- Dark Sky Access – You only have to travel a very short distance to escape the village lights, and to be in almost total dark space.
- Unique climate – Kautokeino has a unique climate, and is very often blessed with clear skies.
- Wide open, panoramic vistas – this lends itself perfectly to Aurora observation and photography.
- Raw, largely untouched Nature – Kautokeino is well and truly off the beaten track and, as such, the population density is low, as indeed is light and noise pollution.
- Heart of Sámi Culture – providing a truly authentic experience.
